If you feel scared or unsure about starting counselling this is completely understandable. It takes courage to reach out, and the effort required can feel uncomfortable at times. I certainly respect that, and will work with you in a compassionate way, building on your personal strengths, resourcefulness and resilience.
The way I work is to increase your awareness about any issue of concern to you, explore your experience and different ways to respond. This gives you greater options and choices in how you live. My focus is to provide counselling that is of benefit to you, so you can cope better and ideally flourish in your life.
I have trained in various therapeutic styles, significantly as a clinical gestalt therapist, as well as in mindfulness, motivational interviewing, brief interventions and cognitive behaviour therapy. My experience in health care is diverse, having worked initially as a nurse in an acute hospital setting and then in various positions in the alcohol and drug field within the mental health sector. This has included counselling, case management and consultancy roles, as well as provision of clinical supervision to colleagues.
If you have any questions about counselling, please feel free to contact me.
